The sporran is an essential piece of Highland dress that accompanies a Scotsman's kilt. The name comes from the Scottish Gaelic word for 'purse'.
In early years kilts were a very basic garment that required no tailoring and were generally a single piece of tartan cloth wrapped around the body. The kilt had no pockets and out of necessity the Highlanders carried a small pouch, usually suspended from a belt. This pouch became the sporran as we know it today.
A variety of designs, these sporrans include a chain or leather belt to complete your Highland gear. Browse the collection at Leather Sporrans.
