Happy St Andrew's Day!

St. Andrew's Day - A Toast

Wha cares if skies be dull and gray?
Wha heeds November weather?
Let ilka Scot be glad to-day
The whole wide warl' thegither.

We're a' a prood and stubborn lot,
And clannish-sae fowk name us-
Ay, but with sic guid cause none ought
Tae judge us, or tae blame us,

For joys that are we'll pledge to-day
A land baith fair and glowing-
Here's tae the hames o' Canada,
Wi' luve and peace o'erflowing!

For joys that were, for auld lang syne,
For tender chords that bind us,
A toast-your hand, auld friend, in mine-
'The land we left behind us!'

Ho, lowlanders! Ho, hielandmen!
We'll toast her a' thegither,
Here's tae each bonnie loch and glen!
Here's tae her hills and heather!

Here's tae the auld hame far away!
While tender mists do blind us,
We'll pledge on this, St. Andrew's day,
'The land we left behind us!'

Update & Alex Beaton

Hi folks,
just a few words on what's coming up next. This weekend of course is the Bethlehem Celtic Classic Fri. Sat and Sun. 27th 28th and 29th. I'll be performing Friday at 4.30 in the Grand Pavilion and then again at 7.30 in the Jameson Tent and again at 4 pm on Sat. and 3.15 pm Sun. at the Jameson Tent.

Now I need your help here. On October 19th I will be running a 5km race (3.1 miles) followed by 10km race (6.2 miles) an hour later. On October 20th I will attempt a 21 km run (13 miles). In all a total of 22 miles. I'm asking anyone who might be interested to pledge at least a dollar a mile, or more to raise money for Alex Beaton's Rehabilitation Fund. I can't promise I can finish all this but I have been training pretty hard. The pledges will go right to Alex's website www.alexbeaton.com.  You can check out the Runners World website for results and info on the event at rw.runnersworld.com/rwhalf. I  will add more info in the next few days but lets get behind this for Alex.

For the rest of the fall I have planned some sailing, golf, orienteering and hiking. My last festival will be in Salado, Texas Nov. 8th. 9th. and 10th. but more on that later. Let's get the word out for Alex.
Cheers, Carl

Heading into June and Summer, just one festival this month at Stepping Stone Museum in Maryland. They are going from a one day event to two days, June 8th and 9th, I always enjoy a two day festival. Which reminds me, Graeme Park in Horsham is also going for two days, July 20th and 21st. Seamus Kennedy will be performing there, haven't seen Seamus in awhile, looking forward to it, great performer. They are stepping up their entertainment with The Glengarry Bhoys, fiddler Melinda Crawford, Irish Thunder, Blackwater and returning The Celtic Martins (Saturday only). There will be pipes and drums, dancing and sheepdog demonstrations. Does this sound like fun or what. Of course Grandfather Mountain (maybe a concert on the Wednesday before the games close by, more on that when I get the details)  and Enumclaw also coming up in July so I will have a busy few months ahead of me. Just a reminder I will be returning to The Bethlehem Celtic Classic this year, I was the very first performer to set foot on stage their first year, 4 pm on the Friday as I recall. Tommy Makem was also there that year. Also I will be returning to Salado in Texas this year, missed last year 'cos I had Lyme disease. Still working on my book "A Touch Of The Fae". Yea I know it's taking awhile. Well I'll get back to you soon with updates.
Cheers for now, Carl

March is almost over and although we had quite a bit of snow over the month we are looking forward to April showers and flowers and budding trees and plants. Also looking forward to the start of the festival saeson which for me starts in May in West Virginia then Fairhill, Maryland. Check my schedule for the rest of the year. I will be back in Enunclaw this July after Grandfather Mountain but I'm trying to keep close to home for the most part, avoiding long distance travel. I am once again limiting my performances to a certain number so I can enjoy free time playing golf, hiking, kayaking among other thing. I am also working on volume 3 & 4 of the sea/ pirate/shanties CDs as volume 1&2 double CD is selling so well. My book, "A Touch of the Fae" is slowly but surely coming along but I will not predict a release date as I realise just how long writng a book takes, at least for me. It's all about Scottish children discovering their gift of the Fae and their subsiquent adventures with different faeries. My first book, "Now's The Day And Now's The Hour" all about the Scotch-Irish influences in early Texas and The Alamo is available on different versions on ebooks for just $0.99 in case anyone is interested, check it out on Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. The double CD music version is a good companion to the book. You can of course buy both from my website. Hey that's it for now, back at you soon when more news pops up. Cheers, Carl

Happy St Patrick's Day!

I've been a wild rover for many a year
And I spent all my money on whiskey and beer,
And now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover no more.

Chorus:
And it's no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play the wild rover
No never no more.

I went to an ale-house I used to frequent
And I told the landlady my money was spent.
I asked her for credit, she answered me "nay
Such a custom as yours I could have any day."

Chorus

I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight.
She said "I have whiskey and wines of the best
And the words that I spoke sure were only in jest."

Chorus

I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son.
And if they caress me as ofttimes before
Sure I never will play the wild rover no more.

Chorus

 (Thanks to The Dubliners)

Happy Birthday Robert Burns!

January 25th is the birthday of Robert Burns, Scotland's (unofficial) National Bard.

Born in 1759 in Ayrshire, Scotland, Robert Burns became a "literary celebrity" for his numerous poems and songs.

So lift your glasses to Robert Burns who gave us these quotes (among many, many others):

"Ah wad some power the giftie gie us
To see ourselves as others see us."

"The best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley."

"My love is like a red, red rose
That 's newly sprung in June"

Don't miss our special on Carl Peterson's great CD "There was a Lad: Songs of Robert Burns"

Happy New Year!

It's 2013 and time for a much needed and anticipated change!

The newly re-designed darachweb store is ready for your business!

On October 1, 2012 our credit card processor told us they were ceasing business on Dec 31, 2012. It was the kick in the pants we needed to finally implement a re-design of the darachweb website (which hadn't changed since the mid 1990's). Work had already started on the re-design but was kicked into high-gear on that day in October.

There are still a couple tweaks we want to make, but the site is ready for business!

Try it, you'll like it!
